21 weeks!!

It's been an exciting week with all the baby movement going on. My belly is getting bigger and I'm actually starting to look pregnant now!
Here's the weekly status report.
Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. If you're having a girl, her vagina is formed now, though it will continue to develop until birth. Your baby is really on the move now. Fetal researchers say babies move about 50 times an hour even while sleeping. All that movement helps stimulate your baby's physical and mental development. You may not notice 50 kicks, punches, and twirls during the day, but as you're settling down at night, don't be surprised if your little guy seems ready to dance the night away

I've been waiting for this!

7:30am this morning I was sitting at my desk and working away, when all of the sudden WHAM! The bean kicked me =) It was unlike any of the other "kicks" I've felt... It was so strong and obvious. I laughed at myself because I almost screamed in shock! Anyhow... he or she has been going at it all day now, and it's freaking awesome! But I'm having a difficult time working, all I do it sit and think about my little bean and what the hell it's doing inside there.
Yay =)

20 weeks - Halfway there!!!!

I can't believe it, we're half-way there!! I'm becoming more and more impatient and anxious to meet the little bean in there! I've been feeling some kicks over the last few days, it's really awesome. Kyle even got to feel it the other night!! Here's the status report... You're at the half-way mark -- Congratulations!! Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She's about 10 inches from head to heel— the length of a banana. A greasy white substance called vernix caseosa coats your baby's entire body to protect her skin during its long submersion in amniotic fluid. She's also producing meconium, a black, sticky substance made of dead cells, digestive secretions, and swallowed amniotic fluid, which will accumulate in her bowels and end up in her first diaper.

Again, too much information. I love hearing all about my bean's development, but I would be fine not knowing what "meconium" is and how it looks etc. Ew.

19 weeks!!

Yes, I have been very busy, and once again neglecting my blog =(

Well, apparently I'm "technically" HALF WAY THERE at 19 weeks (actually in my 20th week) Yippee!!!! I think I'll hold off on my celebration until next week though when I'm actually 20 weeks!

Last night was my work xmas party, it was fun and nice to see everybody all dressed up and liqored up! Funny thing, I obviously wasn't drinking last night, but I woke up with a nasty hangover! Actually just a headache and clogged up nose, but it feels like a hangover.

We did have our Ultrasound last Thursday. It was great to see the little bean moving around in there, he/she had his/her legs crossed too, so I guess bean doesn't want us to know what sex they are!

As soon as I get these pics scanned I will put some up here, but until then, the weekly status report will have to do.

Your baby weighs about 81/2 ounces, and he measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. The hair on his scalp is sprouting. If your baby is a girl, she already has 6 million eggs in her ovaries. This is a crucial time for sensory development: Your baby's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. He may be able to hear you as you talk. Research shows that he's learning to distinguish your voice from others, and he'll soon show a preference for it. Let Dad get in on the act too — encourage him to talk to your baby.

18 weeks!!

What a hectic week at work. Time is just flying by...

I still haven't felt the bean kicking, but I'm pretty sure I felt some movement in there this week. Hopefull soon I will feel some full-fledged karate in there.

Here's the weekly update...

Your baby is twice as big as he was last month, but he still weighs only about 225 grams. Meanwhile, most of the weight you've gained is from amniotic fluid, placenta and water retention. Although things may seem calm on the surface, your little one is kicking, flexing, reaching, rolling, and even sucking his thumb now. If you haven't felt him move yet, you will in the next few weeks. His hearing is now functioning and he will be listening to your heartbeat

17 weeks!! (and a bit)

I can't believe I forgot to post my weekly update last thursday. You see? That pregnancy brain is really getting to me! Actually I was busy packing and being all excited for our weekend trip to the US. Kyle, Laura, and I went down across the border on Friday and met mom & dad at the Skagit. We went to the Casino, lost a bit of money and did a whole lot of shopping. Kyle and I bought a "Nursery in a Box" - which is a crib, change table and dresser. I'm so excited to get started on the nursery!! After waiting in a 2 hour line at the border last night, we are back home now, and I'm going to start my Christmas gift wrapping shortly.

Well, here is the weekly status report, a few days late.....

Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and he's around 5 inches long. He can move his joints, and his skeleton — until now rubbery cartilage — is starting to harden to bone. His sense of hearing is also developing. The umbilical cord, his lifeline to the placenta, is growing stronger and thicker.

Oh yes, and I did get the doppler just over a week ago, and have been using it every few days to listen to the bean. Kyle and I didn't know how to use it at first and we thought we found 3 different heartbeats down there!! But than we figured out that only one was a heartbeat and the other noises were my own blood being pumped to the baby.. We have our ultrasound coming up on November 29th and I'll definatley share some pictures on here.

16 Weeks!!

Time is flying!

I had an appointment with my doc on Monday and I got to hear the bean's heartbeat! It was music to my ears because I've been seriously feeling like there's no baby inside me! Besides the growing stomache and disappearing waistline, I haven't really had any symptoms lately, so I'm feeling much less "preggo" than the first few months. Anyhow, I love hearing my bean SO much that I decided to rent myself a doppler for a month so I can listen to it whenever I want! I'm so excited, it should be getting delivered tomorrow!

I've been shopping online looking at different crib bedding sets. There are so many to choose from and they are so much more expensive than I had anticipated! Anyhow, I found one that I am in LOVE LOVE LOVE with, but it's for a girl. Funny thing is, almost all my family think it's a boy, but several of my friends think it's a girl. What do you guys think?? You see that comment link at the bottom of these posts? It's available for you to leave a comment! Sometimes I wonder if anybody is even reading this blog. Anyhow, if you have a feeling about the sex, leave a comment. I think it's a girl. Kyle thinks I am definatley wrong and that it's a boy.

As always, here's the weekly status report...

At 4 1/2 inches long (head to bottom) and 3 1/2 ounces, your baby is about the size of an avacado. In the next three weeks, she'll go through a tremendous growth spurt, doubling her weight and adding inches to her length. The patterning of her scalp has begun, though her hair isn't recognizable yet. Although closed, her eyes are moving (slowly), and she's even started growing toenails. Her fingernails and toenails will continue to grow, so don't be surprised if she needs them trimmed after birth.

15 Weeks!!

I can't believe how fast the time is flying by. I'm just dying to feel my little bean moving around in there, I haven't felt anything yet, but it should be soon! I have a doctor's appointment on Monday and I'm really hoping that we get to hear the heartbeat on the doppler this time. Last time, the damn thing's batteries died! I'm also patiently waiting for my belly to "pop" so that I actually look pregnant to other people and not just fat! Here is the weekly bean status report.
At around 4 inches long, crown to rump, your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 ounces, about the size of an apple. He's busy inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid, which will help the air sacs in his lungs develop. Sweat glands are appearing, and although his eyelids are fused shut, he can sense light. If you were to shine a flashlight at your tummy, he'd most likely move away from the beam. If you're scheduled for an ultrasound in the coming weeks (most women have one between 16 and 20 weeks), you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl !

14 Weeks!!!

Another week along! Again, not much new to report over here. Last night I had a migraine from hell, and this morning, it is still there, just not full-blown like last night. It really sucks when you can't medicate yourself for these problems, I wanted to take an Advil so freaking badly! Anyhow, here is the weekly bean status report....
Welcome to your second trimester! This is a big milestone because it marks the end of a critical development period. All the basic structures of your baby's body are formed now. Head to bottom, your baby is just 3 1/2 inches long — about the length of a lemon — and weighs about 1 1/2 ounces. She's starting to develop an ultrafine, downy covering of hair all over her body called lanugo . Thanks to brain impulses, her little facial muscles are getting a workout as she squints, frowns, and grimaces. She can grasp now, too, and she may be able to suck her thumb.

Hmm... I thought I was in my 2nd trimester two weeks ago! Oh well... I wonder if bean is sucking it's thumb right now? awwww...

13 Weeks!

Well, it's been a fairly uneventful week, hence the lack of blogging! I had a doctor's appointment on Monday and everything looks fine. I've been feeling much better with the Diclectin, but have been suffering from a nightly headache. Anyhow, here's the weekly bean status report....Your belly may soon be big enough to announce to the world that you're expecting, but your baby is still tiny. In fact, he's only about 3 inches long crown to rump — roughly the size of a jumbo shrimp — and weighs just about an ounce. Despite the small proportions, there's a fully formed baby inside your womb now. Much more proportional than it was a few weeks ago, his head is now only about a third the size of his body. His tiny, unique fingerprints are already in place. His kidneys and urinary tract are functional, and he's starting to urinate out the amniotic fluid he's been swallowing. As you start your second trimester, most of your baby's critical development will be completed, and your odds of miscarriage will drop considerably.
I know that the little bean growing inside of me is miraculous and everything else, but really, "urinating out the amniotic fluid he's been swallowing"?????? that's SICK.

Adios Trimester One!! - 12 Weeks!

Yippee!!! We made it past the first trimester!!! I'm happy to have reached this milestone and am looking forward to the apparent energy and good feelings that are supposed to come along with the 2nd trimester.

I am feeling better today, with the assistance of a very expensive prescription that I got from the doctor yesterday. You see, after my last entry, I became violently ill, and was throwing up everything including water. It was like an unrelenting stomach-flu on crack, possibly the worst 24-hours of my life. So, I bit the bullet and got the Dilectin, which seems to be helping things. Today was the first day that I can remember in a long time when I took the bus and didn't get off and yack. At $200 a month, this shit better work!

Anyhow, here's the weekly update from babycentre.com..

"Your baby's hit the 2-inch mark (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce. Her eyes, which started out on the sides of her head, have moved closer together. Your baby's intestines, which have grown so rapidly that they protruded into the umbilical cord, will start to move into her abdominal cavity. Her kidneys are secreting urine into her bladder. She may have acquired more reflexes, including sucking, and she'll even squirm if you prod your abdomen, though you still won't be able to feel her move for a few weeks. "

This sucks.

I've thrown-up 3 times (so far) today on my first day back at work after the long weekend. I swear, it's something in the air here. I didn't get sick once this weekend. Or maybe it was the lady on the bus this morning who hadn't bathed in about a month. Whatever it is, I can't handle it.

I'm patiently waiting for Thursday to roll around as that is when I'm officially OUT of the 1st trimester and I'm hoping to wake up on Thursday morning miraculously cured of all nausea and vomitting. In the meantime and incase that doesn't happen, I've been busy at work researching home remedies to cure morning sickness. Ha! What a joke. Here's what I've found so far....
  • get plenty of rest ( I try)
  • chew your food thouroughly ( I would if I could eat something)
  • make sure your stomach is never empty - carry fruit and CRACKERS around with you to nibble on throughout the day (no comment)
  • keep a snack by the bed for when you get up in the middle of the night, and have a snack when you wake up in the morning before you get out of bed
  • eat a high protein snack right before bed
  • eat salty crunchy foods
  • sniff a fresh lemon peel (lol)
  • suck a piece of peeled gingerroot (eww!)
  • To avoid actually vomiting, try grasping your tongue with a piece of cloth and pulling gently but firmly (lol)
  • Lie completely still with your eyes closed

The only one that I figure actually works is the last one. I mean, is it just me or do these so-called "cures" all seem to cause the problem at hand. For me at least, the problem is that if I eat something, I throw it up... Why would I attempt to cure this problem by eating more?

I've also heard of these "preggie pops & quesy pops" which are suckers and sucky candies that are supposed to cure morning sickness. I'm thinking when I get home tonight I'll be sending Kyle out on a mission - not for pickles & ice cream, to find me some preggie pops!

11 weeks!

I'm 11 weeks today. Above is the picture of what my bean is supposed to look like at this stage.
According to the weekly email I receive from http://www.babycenter.ca/,
"Measuring from the crown of his head to his rump, your 1.5-inch/ 4-centimetre fetus has all his parts, from tooth buds to toenails. Your baby is busy kicking and stretching; his movements are so fluid they look like water ballet. Fingers and toes have fully separated. Now the fetus's main task during the next six months will be to grow larger and stronger until it can survive on its own outside the womb"
I can't believe he/she already has toothbuds and toenails! (What are toothbuds?)

Crackers..

I know that people mean well, I honestly do, but I swear to god, if one more person tells me to eat some crackers to cure my never-ending morning sickness I'm going to lose it. After another session of praying to the porcelain gods in my work bathroom this morning, I have had 2 people approach me and tell me about this so-called cure of eating crackers. Really? Is that all it's going to take? I've been vomitting for 2 weeks straight and all I needed to do was eat a stinking cracker? Shit, I wish I would have thought of that myself. Trust me, I've tried the damn crackers. I've tried everything, nothing helps. There is this medicine that you can apparently get from a doctor but it's expensive ($2 a pill, 5 pills a day), might not be covered by insurance, and can cause severe headaches (which you can't take anything for) I figure I'll just wait it out.. It's supposed to get better between 12-14 weeks but I swear, at this point, it's getting worse every day.
Okay, rant over.

Knocked Up!!

Welcome to my new blog!

Yes, our little family is growing.. which is worthy of a new blog, all to itself! This blog will serve several purposes... First, it will be my online pregnancy journal, to keep friends and family up-to-date on the goings on in this mommy-to-be's uterus. I will post pictures of my growing belly (well, maybe) and what else? I don't know. But I'm sure there will be other purposes!

So, I guess I'll start at the beginning... it was Sunday August 12th, 2007 (Kyle's 22nd birthday), early morning when I first saw that second line on the Home Prengnancy test.. It took awhile for it to sink in, and initally I didn't even tell Kyle! Eventually, I went and got Kyle and told him I had another birthday present for him. I gave him the pee-stick and we had our little happy family moment of celebration..

We got to see our precious bean for the first time on September 19th at the first ultrasound. It was such a great feeling to see our little bean's heart pumping away on the screen and we got to hear it too, it was so fast - 179 bpm!

Today I am 10 weeks and 6 days pregnant, so I'm just over a quarter of the way there. Up until about 9 weeks, I had it pretty good.. no nauesa or vomitting. Just extremely tired and waking up every 2 hours in the night to pee....

And than last week it hit me really hard. I was on the bus to work when I felt a very strong urge that I was going to yack so I got off and ralphed on the sidewalk in front of about 20 people waiting for the bus. Holy embarrassing! I cried and walked away. For the rest of the week I drove into work and was able to get sick in the privacy of my own car on the side of the highway.

This week I've been braving it and taking the bus again. It's not been pleasant but I haven't actually gotten sick on the bus. I have gotten sick on multiple occasions in the public bathroom at my work though, which makes me very unhappy, and also brings me some unwanted attention from the office gossip queens.

Anyhow, what else...

Believe it or not, I can no longer even stomach a cup of Tim Horton's coffee in the morning. Instead, I go for a gingerale every day when I get to work!

I've lost 5lbs, which is strange considering... but apparently it's normal to lose a few lbs in the first trimester. I think it's from not drinking any beer!

Kyle and I have both quit smoking!

My bra has gone up a cup size! Okay, possibly too much information.

I've experienced multiple episodes of pregnancy brain.

I'm obsessed with Cucumbers, like really, I could eat 10 cucumbers a day.

I've mastered the art of getting up in the middle of the night to pee and staying asleep while doing so.

Besides some cramping, headaches, and heartburn that's about it. Sounds great hey? I know.. but it will all be worth it in the end.

Later!
